An Open Letter to our Neighbors from the Coal Creek Community Coalition:

Dear Neighbors,

We share a common and very valuable community asset: Coal Creek and its watershed. Unfortunately, this important resource has not always been properly managed. A citizens' group made up of your surrounding neighbors has formed a non-profit organization called the Coal Creek Community Coalition, whose sole purpose is to help protect and improve this unique asset.

The organization's mission is to preserve, promote, and enhance the natural environment of Coal Creek by undertaking a number of activities in a manner beneficial to the publicÕs interest as it relates to Coal Creek and its watershed. Those activities will include:

* Helping to educate and inform area residents and public officials of public and private projects that may have an impact on Coal Creek and its watershed
* Being an advocate on behalf of the surrounding communities to support public projects that improve the wilderness and fish habitat of Coal Creek and its watershed
* Increasing recreational and educational uses of the Coal Creek area

We would like to encourage you to join the Coal Creek Community Coalition to help in these important activities. Our hope is that by expanding our community membership we might better coordinate and mold long-term solutions that will enhance and preserve our valuable resource. With your support as members, our next step is to demonstrate our community support to our elected officials of Bellevue, Newcastle and King Co., and bring them together to devise a long-range plan of action that addresses many of the ongoing siltation, erosion and flooding problems that plague the creek and prevent it from achieving its full potential in the improvement of wildlife, fish habitat and recreational uses. A $5.00 membership fee includes active participation and a vote on issues that direct the efforts of the Coal Creek Community Coalition. Please join and support our efforts.
